Luxembourg PM: Bulgaria, Romania Impressed with Courage
|
The courage of Bulgarian and Romanian people to carry out landmark reforms impressed all of us, the Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean Claude Juncker, whose country now hold EU presidency, said on Monday evening.
Juncker delivered the opening speech to the ceremony in which Bulgaria and Romania sign their accession treaties. Their target date to become full members is January 1, 2007.
Bulgaria and Romania had to overhaul their social and economical systems in very short terms, Juncker said in an emotional manner, calling on current EU members to open the door to the two "brave and noble" Balkan nations.
The Luxembourg Premier recalled that judicial reforms were yet another challenge that the aspirants have to face.
He emphasized on the role of Europe as an instrument for global peace. |
